Dana Huyge, viola

Dana Huyge began playing violin at the age of four, and studied under the Suzuki method for the better part of eight years before switching to viola. His teachers include Yizhak Schotten, Caroline Coade, Melissa Matson, and George Taylor, as well as Kitt Dod of the Syracuse Symphony. Also an accomplished singer, he studied with Carmen Pelton and Stephen West while working towards his bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan. Additionally, Mr. Huyge has worked with such artists as Simon Carrington, Susan Dubois, Carol Rodland, Edward Parmentier, Andrew Jennings, the Takacs Quartet, members of the Ying Quartet, 8th Blackbird, and Time for Three.

Mr. Huyge is currently an active performer as violist, violinist, and singer with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Greece Symphony Orchestra, the University of Rochester YellowJackets, as well as chamber and solo appearances in the Central New York area. He has also served as Principal Violist of the Eastman Philharmonia, and the Penfield Symphony Orchestra. He will receive his Master's degree from the Eastman School of Music in the spring of 2011.
